Welcome to our latest issue of the Grapevine!

Our lead article for this issue is on Infection Control.

Infection Control represents an essential hospital activity and is of critical importance. The authors of this article, MLT Phyllis Ting, RN Joan Tan and Dr Gabriel Teo, have admirably described and elucidated upon the key issues of preventing and controlling transmission of infection. They have described comprehensively the activities of the infection control team including routine surveillance, prevention of transmission and other measures.

This article will be of particular relevance to our staff, however, it should be of interest to patients, their relatives and other visitors to the hospital.

Another major public health issue, Cancer, is highlighted in the article by Dr Goh Kiang Hua. This article entitled "Cancer - What you need to know" is very comprehensive and illuminates a complex group of diseases that can arise from practically all tissues and organs in the human body. Dr Goh has clearly described some of the key facts about this challenging group of disease. Common symptoms, diagnosis, staging and principles of treatment are succinctly laid out in terms amenable to the lay reader.

We trust that the articles in this issue of Grapevine will be a starting point to whet your appetite to learn more about these various healthcare issues as well as to inform you about the activities and services available here at NMSC.
