The Urology Centre is well equipped and staffed to investigate and manage a range of urological conditions. The team of professional staff works together with related specialties to provide services also in lithotripsy, urodynamics, dialysis and nephrology. ESWL, extracorporeal shockwave lithotripsy and endoscopic lithotripsy with stone removal allow most stones to be treated without open surgery. ESWL is done with a Dornier Compact Delta machine with a resident urologist. For the man who needs assessment of the prostate or lower urinary tract symptoms, the range of diagnostic services are available within the Centre and this includes DRE (digital rectal examination), urine flow rate, TRUS (transrectal ultrasound of the prostate) and if necessary, ultrasound guided prostate biopsy. For patients with blood in the urine or pain on passing urine, urine test and endoscopy can also be done so as to arrive at a definitive diagnosis.

For patients who have problems in passing urine or urinary incontinence, urodynamics is performed using a Dantec machine. Various modalities (including the safe use of Viagra) are available for the treatment of sexual dysfunction. Assessment and surgery for male subfertility is also available. Together with the resident paediatricians, all forms of paediatric urological abnormalities (e.g. hypospadias, undescended testis) are managed. Together with the nephrologist’s service, surgery for dialysis (AVF, arteriovenous fistula and peritoneal dialysis catheter) are prepared. Although Normah does not have a kidney transplantation program, we look after many patients both before and after transplantation.
