Medical Oncology Oncology is a specialty dealing with the management of cancers. We provide management including assessment, diagnosis and treatment. We work closely and in collaboration with our Surgical Oncology colleagues in the related specialties (e.g. General Surgery, Gynaecology, Orthopaedics) and Radiation Oncology at the Sarawak General Hospital. A multidisciplinary approach ensures that Normah’s Medical Oncologist is able to provide a range of treatment options for cancer patients. Regular Tumour Board meetings chaired by the Normah Medical Oncologist, are held where cancer management is discussed in a multidisciplinary fashion so that patients get the best of combination therapy tailored to suit the individual patient.Protocols in cancer chemotherapy are employed to achieve the best possible outcomes for patient diagnosed with cancer. A comfortable Oncology Day Centre with oncology trained nurses including an Oncology Nursing Sister and Oncology trained Staff Nurse work closely with the Medical Oncologist to ensure the high standard of personalized care and comfort is rendered to patients and their loved ones. An important aspect of care is in supportive care and symptom control to achieve a good quality of life for those people with advanced cancer. Pain relief, comfort and maximum functional status are the goals in this group of patients with incurable disease. |
