Vision
We envisage Normah Medical Specialist Centre's Nursing School as the preferred provider of quality nursing education in the region.

Mission
The mission of Normah Medical Specialist Centre's Nursing School is to provide a supportive environment for education of professional nurses who are knowledgeable, skillful and caring.

Diploma in Basic Nursing Program

Course Profile
This course is a basic nursing course, which provides comprehensive preparation and a sound foundation in health, behavioral and nursing sciences using an integrated approach. The nursing process will be used throughout the curriculum. It is aimed at providing a humanistic and holistic approach to nursing, preparing the nurse to be sensitive to the needs of the patient, his family and the community.

The organ system approach is adopted in teaching common health problems and all the other sciences are integrated into the organ system approach to provide a coherent whole.

Program Objectives
The program objectives are:

  1. Promote, maintain, restore health, prevent disease and injury to individuals, families and community.
  2. Participate effectively as a member of the health team.
  3. Provide effective and comprehensive nursing care using the nursing process.
  4. Apply management skills when providing health care services.
  5. Function as a competent member of a multi-disciplinary health team and be accountable for nursing practice.
  6. Demonstrate positive attitudes in the execution of her or his daily responsibilities as a person, nurse and citizen.
  7. Educate individuals, families and communities on health care so that they are responsible for their own health.
  8. Establish and maintain good interpersonal and public relations.
  9. Utilize primary health care approach for the delivery of health care to individuals, families and community.
  10. Recognize the need for research in clinical nursing practice and to participate in such research.
  11. Develop self-awareness and values in continuing education.

Course Information
This is a 3-year Diploma in basic nursing course that runs over 6 semesters. This course commences on 1 July every year.

On successful completion of this program, candidates will be registered with the Nursing Board Malaysia as a Registered Nurse.

Entry Requirement
The minimum entry requirement is SPM or its equivalent with 4 credits (Mathematics, Bahasa Malaysia, English and Science subjects)

Assessment Method
Each student is assessed continuously. This includes:

  • Internal Examination
    There are internal examinations at the end of each semester except semester 6. Projects or written assignments will be given during these semesters and they contribute towards the final examination marks.
  • Ministry Of Health Examination
    Semester 6 - Final Examination
    Nursing students of Normah Medical Specialist Centre are required to sit for exam (theory and practical) conducted by the Ministry of Health Malaysia.

Benefits During Training

Allowance
Nursing students will receive a monthly allowance throughout this 3 years program.

Uniform
Students are provided with Normah's nursing uniforms and shoes.

Medical Benefits
Nursing students will be entitled to outpatient and inpatient medical benefits at Normah.

Accommodation
Trainees from outstation will be provided with hostel accommodation.

Transportation
Transportation only provided for trainees who are staying in Normah’s hostels.

Attachment
Part of the training involves clinical experience in government general hospitals and Maternal and Child health Clinics.

Practical room
There is a well-equipped skill laboratory. Students will gain simulated clinical experience. This allows them to acquire confidence and skills before their clinic attachment.

We believe that a conducive study environment is important. Our lecture room/halls are spacious, air-conditioned and comfortable.

Library
Students have ready access to in-house reference, resource and video and multimedia reference materials in the library.

Computer room
Students have the use of our computer room facilities to do their assignments, course works or projects. Students are required to use computers to do their presentation for their projects.

We also provide computer training for all students, including use of spreadsheet, word processing and presentation software. This training is optional if you are already computer literate.

Approachable lecturers
Lecturers in Normah are well qualified and experienced, and are also dedicated, approachable and will give special personal attention to individual student where needed.

Our course educators are ever ready to provide students with assistance and counseling whenever needed.
